FAQ

What is gold-filled jewelry?

Gold-filled is made by heat and pressure-bonding a layer of karat gold to a base metal core. "14/20" gold-filled material is made with 14-karat gold and the gold represents 1/20th (or 5%) of the total weight of the material.

Gold-filled items are 100 times thicker than regular gold plating. It is tarnish resistant and has the same look and feel of solid gold. The value of gold-filled is greater than gold-plated because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold.As such, it is more expensive than sterling silver, but still so more affordable than solid gold.

What is Gold and Silver Plated jewelry?

Gold and silver plated jewelry is made by using electricity or chemicals to deposit and bond a very thin layer of gold and silver over another metal. This process creates a layer as thin as 1/1000 to 3/1000 of an inch of gold/silver over a more affordable metal, usually copper or brass

The downside of plating jewelry is that the layer fades and tarnishes over time.

What is Rhodium Plated jewelry ?

Rhodium plated jewelry is involves plating the jewelry with a surface that guards against scratches that also gives a reflective white appearance. It is most commonly found on White Gold jewelry but can also be used on silver and other materials.

It increases shine, luster and durability. Make your jewelry more resistant to scratches and if it's silver, less prone to tarnishing. Another popular benefit to rhodium plating is the fact that it makes your jewelry hypoallergenic. This is because it's nickel-free.

But still ,wear and tear will wear off the plating too.It may need to be re-applied every couple years.

What is silver -filled ?

Silver filled metal is made by bonding a layer of sterling silver over a core of another metal (usually copper). It involves a much thicker layer (100times) of silver than is used in silver plated metals. Its less costly then 925silver.
